Avuá Cachaça is an artisanal, small-batch sugarcane brandy from the fourth-generation family business, Fazenda da Quinta, in the highlands of Rio de Janeiro.
We have summarized details on the production of Avuá Cachaça in an extra article, as well as a brief description of what Cachaça actually is.

For Avuá Tapinhoã, the base distillate is aged in Tapinhoã wood casks for 12-24 months. This is the wood of an extremely rare tree, from whose genus numerous species are already considered extinct and only a few individual specimens are found. Therefore, the commercial use of the wood is now of course neither responsible nor legal.

However, the current master distiller at Facenda da Quinta found an old barrel some time ago that her grandfather had made and had stood unused in the barn for decades. As part of an extensive restoration, the barrel was disassembled and each individual stave was ground down so that the newly assembled barrel can once again pass on the character of its wood to the distillate. However, the process cannot be carried out as often as you like, because then the staves are simply too thin to protect the contents safely. Therefore, this will probably remain the only Tapinhoã bottling from Avuá.

Right at the beginning, the Avuá Tapinhoã offers a scent of fresh honey, beeswax and coconut, accompanied by delicate floral notes. The taste is clearly dominated by the base distillate from sugar cane, but both honey and coconut can be clearly recognized. With a caramel-like sweetness in the taste, the finish is rather dry and spicy, with the coconut remaining present for a long time.

Drinking recommendation:
Pure. Such a rarity should be appreciated and enjoyed in its purest form. There will probably never be anything comparable again.
