They are outraged by the Americans' Vietnam War, are enthusiastic about the Cuban revolution and see it as the initial spark for the world revolution. They meet in Havana in the mid-1960s: the well-known Danish war reporter Jan Stage, the left-wing Italian publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, the French philosopher Régis Debray, the Bolivian student leader Inti, Monika Ertl, the daughter of Leni Riefenstahl's cameraman, and of course Che Guevara, the shining hero of the Cuban revolution. The fate of these six people remains closely interwoven - and with that of a seventh personality, the Bolivian secret service chief Roberto Quintanilla. When "Che", accompanied by Inti, Ertl and Stage, stirs up the farmers in Bolivia, Quintanilla tracks him down and has him murdered. It is probably Ertl who, years later, shoots Quintanilla, who has meanwhile been appointed Consul General in Hamburg, and thus avenges Che. Feltrinelli is said to have got her the pistol ...
